Multiple murder suspect Bryan Kohberger was fired as a teaching assistant from Washington State University, according to reporting by the New York Post.
The reports state that Kohberger had run-ins with professors and allegedly behaved inappropriately toward some women on campus.
These alleged behaviors supposedly happened in the weeks following the multiple murders in a nearby student house close to the campus.
Kohberger, a Ph.D. student at WSU, met with professors and faculty members at the university to discuss his behavior, according to a report by the New York Times.
The New York Times obtained the termination letter and indicated that Kohberger had a verbal altercation with Professor John Snyder on September 23, 2022. The Times had three sources and said that Kohberger met with faculty to discuss norms of professional behavior.
According to the New York Times, a professor e-mailed Kohberger the following month about the ways in which you had failed to meet your expectations as a T.A. thus far in the semester, according to the New York Times.
Just 11 days before Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20, were found dead, department officials reportedly met with Kohberger to discuss an improvement plan.
However, the Times also reports that on December 9, Kohberger had another altercation with the same professor. Also, in December, professors were notified that Kohberger had made multiple female students uncomfortable. Kohberger allegedly followed a female student to her car in one specific case.
Two people who spoke with the Times said that the university did not find any evidence to back up the claims that Kohberger had harassed any of the female students.
The decision to eliminate the funding he was receiving and terminate him as a T.A. came because they said his performance did not meet the universitys standards. In particular, the university felt that he had been given every opportunity that he deserved to try to perform his teaching assistant duties. Still, they determined that he failed to do so.
On December 19, the university determined that he had yet to progress in his professionalism, and they determined that they would eliminate Kohberger from his official duties as a T.A.
There are several other reports of Kohberger allegedly harassing women, according to the New York Post. One incident was at the Seven Sirens Brewing Company in Pennsylvania. He usually sat in the bar watching and observing before he would ever start to drink. He also allegedly made women feel uncomfortable there as well.
