A search engine known as DuckDuckGo is not being attacked for having some of the same privacy concerns that larger rivals such as Google also have.
Breitbart reports that the search engine that marketed itself as a safer alternative to Google regarding how it handles privacy appears not to have done such a great job of this. They are now under fire for having some of the same privacy concerns from users that Google has.
Breitbart reports that Neutronians annual Data Privacy Scores puts DuckDuckGo at the bottom 10% of all companies it examined for privacy safeguards. The company has relatively weak privacy safeguards compared to many other companies involved in this process.
Timur Yarnall, CEO at Neutronian, spoke with MediaPost and said the following about these results:
DuckDuckGo, a search engine marketing its services based on privacy, but monetize services through Bing, got dinged for lack of disclosure and transparency.
DuckDuckGo has tried hard to make itself seem like a safer and more transparent version of Google, but that doesnt seem to be what they are truly all about at the end of the day. They are posting weaker scores than many other search engines similar to Google.
Like Google, DuckDuckGo has a new tab, but right-wing publications such as Breitbart seem to be scrubbed entirely from the news available for one to consume when looking at what kind of news they might want to take a look at. This is truly disturbing for people who want a fair and balanced approach to the news they consume. Sadly, many search engines dont want to offer this kind of approach.
Jeff Bermant, CEO of Tusk, spoke with Breitbart News and stated that it is time for a search engine to emerge that offers a balanced take on the news:
Americans need a search engine with results they can trust. Both Google and DuckDuckGo manipulate search results and censor conservative media. Ive been frustrated with the lack of an alternative, and thats why Tusk Search is so necessary. You deserve to find what youre looking for when you use a search engine, not what Silicon Valley wants you to find.
Many consumers are interested in this approach as well. They want to find information for themselves and to choose what kind of news they are consuming and what that news truly means as it relates to their lives.
