Bitter Showdown: MSNBC's Joe Scarborough Slams Speaker Mike Johnson's Israel Funding Proposal, Warns Of GRAVE Consequences

MSNBC presenter Joe Scarborough has vociferously criticized the recently elected Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for his controversial proposal to link aid to Israel with cuts in funding for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Scarborough expressed his concern that this could potentially endanger Israeli lives, as the measure is unlikely to gain approval.

Scarborough, speaking on "Morning Joe" on Tuesday, was forthright in his condemnation of Johnson's stance. Mike Johnson and Donald Trump have burdened America with debt and now, he refuses to assist Jews in their self-defense, he stated. It is utterly distasteful. He proposes, We will safeguard the Jews if you shield the billionaires.

On Monday, House Republicans unveiled a $14.3 billion aid package for Israel, which controversially includes an equivalent amount in cuts to IRS funding. This detail is expected to meet with strong opposition from Democrats. Johnson has been accused by Democrats of using the aid package for political maneuvering, with some suggesting it could establish a dangerous precedent.

The White House also expressed its disapproval of the proposal, warning of its potential to cause significant harm to national security and international alliances in the future. Politicizing our national security interests is unacceptable, stated White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

Scarborough further argued that the proposed legislation, unlikely to be endorsed by Democrats, could exacerbate the risk to Jewish lives in Israel. Israel is currently engaged in conflict with Hamas, designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., following a lethal attack by the group on Israel on October 7.

Scarborough lambasted Johnson's approach, stating, Ive never heard of a more ill-conceived plan to commence a speakership than to jeopardize Jewish lives to shield billionaire tax evaders. He added, And he is fully aware that this will never pass because they will not allow billionaires to persist in tax evasion. He knows this. And yet, thats his proposition.

Scarborough continued his critique of Johnson, mocking the speaker's suggestion that the GOP will allow Democrats to safeguard the Jews, but they must permit us Republicans to protect billionaire tax evaders. He described the entire bill as utterly repugnant.

The Republican-supported aid package contradicts President Bidens previous request to Congress for $105 billion in supplemental funding, which included aid for Israel, Ukraine, security operations at the U.S.-Mexico border, and allies in the Indo-Pacific.

The House Rules Committee is scheduled to review the GOP legislation on Wednesday.
