Rowlett Police Department in Texas has issued a warrant for the arrest of Heather Schwab, a notorious "serial squatter" who has been fraudulently living in homes.
Schwab has been charged with fraudulent securing of document execution of over $30,000 and less than $150,000, a felony. The police believe that Schwab is still in the state and are urging the public to come forward with any information regarding her whereabouts.
This is not the first time Schwab has been involved in such activities. In 2018, she was convicted of felony identity theft in Colorado in connection to serial squatting. However, she was released after serving only 16 months behind bars. Schwab came back into the public eye this year when a homeowner in Rowlett, Jessica Davis, reported that a woman using a false identity had moved into her house without paying rent.
Davis expressed her frustration with the authorities, stating that she had reached out to the Dallas County and Rowlett Police for help, but her calls were ignored. She believes that if action had been taken earlier, the situation could have been resolved sooner. Davis had entered into a rental agreement with Schwab, who had promised to pay $3,100 per month for a 12-month contract.
Davis had contacted various local officials for assistance, but was told that it was a civil matter. She even went as far as calling the police, the district attorney, the chief of police, and the courts, but to no avail. It was only after local media began investigating the case that progress was made in removing Schwab from the property.
Schwab finally vacated the premises last month, leaving the house in a deplorable state. Davis described the condition of the home, saying that it reeked of urine and cigarette smoke, and was filled with trash and food debris. The toilets were clogged with toilet paper and other substances.
Davis expressed her disappointment with the local police, stating that their negligence and lack of communication had caused her financial strain. She had hoped that they would have taken action sooner, but instead, she had to rely on the involvement of the media to resolve the situation. Davis is now living with family members to save money, as she has been left financially strapped due to the ordeal.
If Schwab is arrested and found guilty, she could face up to 10 years in prison or a $10,000 fine. The police have provided a description of Schwab's vehicle, a 2005 Dodge Ram with a Colorado license plate reading ZOS460.
