Over 30 student organizations at Harvard University recently came together to show solidarity with the Palestinian cause by releasing a letter that blamed Israel for the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas.
The letter, which was released during the weekend of October 7th and 8th, drew intense criticism for its inflammatory language and false accusations against Israel.
The letter, released by the "Harvard Palestine Solidarity Groups," accused Israel of being solely responsible for the violence and suffering endured by Palestinians for the past 75 years. It cited various alleged Israeli actions, such as land seizures, airstrikes, detentions, and targeted killings, as evidence of an apartheid regime. The letter called on the Harvard community to take a stand against what it referred to as the "ongoing annihilation of Palestinians."
The release of the letter sparked a significant backlash, with major law firms and CEOs demanding to know the names of the students involved in the groups that signed on to the letter. Some billionaire donors and board members also expressed their disgust with Harvard's response to the letter and walked away from their affiliations with the university.
Adding fuel to the fire was the appearance of a "doxxing truck" near the Harvard campus. The truck displayed the names and faces of students allegedly affiliated with the groups that signed the controversial letter. The truck, sponsored by Accuracy in Media, a conservative media advocacy group, labeled the students as "antisemites" and directed viewers to a website that listed the full names of the students associated with the organizations that signed the letter.
The doxxing truck took its campaign further by making its way to the homes of some of the alleged signers of the letter. Although the police were called, they informed concerned residents that the truck was allowed to be there. Accuracy in Media defended its actions, stating that they focused on the leaders of the organizations rather than the members and that the students' home addresses were publicly available.
The doxxing trucks have caused an uproar at Harvard, prompting the university to establish a task force to support the students who claim to be experiencing doxxing, harassment, and online security issues. The task force aims to address the backlash faced by the students allegedly affiliated with the statement that held Israel "entirely responsible" for the violence in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The existence of the doxxing trucks has generated mixed reactions on social media. Some argue that the public figures involved should face the consequences of their actions, while others believe that it sets a dangerous precedent for targeting individuals based on their beliefs.
