The classic song California Here I Come is playing a different tune nowadays as Californians are going from instead of coming to the state.
Fox News reports GOP Governor Spencer Cox of Utah has added his verse, "Stay in California.".
Californians have left the Golden State by the thousands, citing high crime rates, Coronavirus lockdowns, high taxes, exorbitant prices of housing, and homelessness as the reasons for packing up and moving to nearby Utah.
In 2022, California took a massive hit to the population, with over 343,000 people moving from the state. The high decline in population ranked California as having the most significant decline in any state.
Governor Spencer told reporters outside the White House, Were having the opposite problem, this last census confirmed that Utah was the fastest-growing state in the last ten years. So our biggest problems are more growth related. We would love for people to stay in California instead of coming as refugees to Utah, so were always trying to figure that out.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy was also outside the White House discussing ways to encourage more people to move to his state.
Cox explained the problems Utah was experiencing in terms of the increased growth, which was affecting housing and water resources. He added, Were not working to attract more people. Were doing just fine that way. Utah was named the best state to start a business, with Texas and Florida number two and three, so we feel really good about that balance and where we are right now. Governor Murphy chimed in, jokingly, Well take some of your folks into New Jersey.
While New Jersey is trying to find ways to entice people to move to the Garden State, residents of the neighboring state of Nevada werent happy about the many Californians overrunning their state, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times.
One Nevada resident told the news outlet, A lot of people that have lived here for a long time, they dont like Californians.
An attempt by Fox News Digital to get a response from California Governor Gavin Newsom has resulted in no reply.
