In a recent development, a man, Christian D.Williams, wanted for murder, reportedly shot himself on Monday when authorities approached him for questioning regarding the escape of four inmates from a Georgia prison, as per The Associated Press.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, acting on a tip-off that an individual in a Macon apartment might possess information about the jailbreak, arrived at the location. Bibb County Sheriff David Davis revealed that the officers were met with gunfire through the door from an occupant inside the apartment, as reported by AP.

Following this, a SWAT team was dispatched to the scene. A woman inside the apartment guided them to Williams, who had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the deputies' statement to the outlet.

Sheriff Davis clarified, "Let me make that clear [Williams] is not one of our escapees. But he is a person that we feel has knowledge of where they might be, that has knowledge of the escape, and who has some connection to at least one or two of the people were looking for," as noted by the outlet.

Williams had been untraceable since the day prior to his March 6 court hearing for a murder trial, where he was facing charges for a 2021 shooting at a Macon convenience store, as per AP. Officials disclosed that a security camera had recorded Williams being assaulted and kidnapped outside his home. His ankle monitor was found to be inactive at the time, leading Bibb to speculate that the incident might have been staged.

Sheriff Davis had earlier remarked, "It is sort of suspicious that a person gets kidnapped under surveillance cameras on the day that they were supposed to appear in court," as reported by AP.

As of Monday, Williams was in critical condition in a hospital. The woman in the apartment, Mykia M. Williams, was arrested and charged with aiding an escape, according to AP. The relationship between the two Williams is yet to be determined.

The escapees, identified as Joey Fournier, Marc Kerry Anderson, Johnifer Dernard Barnwell, and Chavis Demaryo Stokes, fled the Bibb County jail on October 16.

A total reward of $73,000 is being offered for information leading to their capture. The escaped inmates have been convicted of grave offenses, including murder, aggravated assault, and federal drug charges.
