In a shocking revelation, Representative Shelia Jackson Lee, a Democrat from Texas, was recorded in a leaked audio clip berating her staff with a barrage of profanities and insults.
The audio was reportedly provided to Current Revolt by an anonymous staffer, who then made it available online.
In the contentious audio clip, Lee can be heard admonishing her staff, "I don't want you to do a goddamn thing. I want you to have a f***ing brain. I want you to have read it." She further expressed her expectations, stating, "I want you to say, 'Congresswoman, with such and such date.' That's what I want. That's the kind of staff that I want to have."
The tirade continued with Lee expressing her frustration over a lack of information, "So some stupid other motherf***er did it. And, and I don't have the information. Nobody sent me the information." She also criticized her staff's lack of knowledge, stating, "And nobody knows a godd**n thing in my office. Okay? Nothing. I gave it to you."
The audio recording also captured Lee's harsh criticism of two individuals, presumably members of her staff, "Okay. So when I called Jerome, he only sitting up there like a fat ass stupid idiot talking about, uh, what the f***? He doesn't know. Okay? Both of y'all are f***-ups [inaudible]. It's the worst s**t that I could have ever had put together. Two goddamn big ass children f***ing idiots serve no goddamn purpose. Ain't managing nobody. Nobody's respecting them. Nobody gives a s**t about what you're doing and you ain't doing s**t. And this is an example of it. I gave it to Jerome. This is not child's work."
Lee, who has represented Texas's 18th District for 28 years, is currently a leading contender in the Houston mayoral race. However, this is not the first time her management style has come under scrutiny.
The Houston Chronicle reports, "Over the past three decades, critics have repeatedly attacked Jackson Lee and her top aides for demanding workloads and high turnover rates. Congressional staffers have also routinely voted for Jackson Lee as the 'meanest' employer on Capitol Hill in Washingtonian Magazines 'Best and Worst of Congress' lists."
