A recent poll released on Tuesday has unveiled a significant shift in the 2024 presidential race.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has now entered the race as an independent candidate instead of a Democrat, is garnering support from Trump voters, thereby propelling Joe Biden into the lead.
The NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist National Poll conducted on October 11 surveyed 1,218 registered voters. In a two-way race between Trump and Biden, 49 percent of registered voters expressed their intention to vote for Biden, while 46 percent favored Trump, leaving 5 percent undecided.
However, with Kennedy's entry into the race, Biden's support among registered voters dropped to 44 percent, while Trump's plummeted to 37 percent. Kennedy managed to secure 16 percent of support from registered voters, with 3 percent remaining undecided.
It is worth noting that Trump enjoyed an advantage among independent voters in a two-way race, with 49 percent indicating their preference for him, compared to 43 percent for Biden. 8 percent of independent voters remained undecided.
In a three-way race involving Biden, Trump, and Kennedy, 34 percent of independent voters stated they would vote for Trump, 33 percent for Biden, and 29 percent for Kennedy. 4 percent of independent voters were undecided.
Kennedy's announcement of his independent bid for president on October 9 has shaken up the political landscape. During a Philadelphia event, Kennedy declared, "Im here to declare myself an independent candidate for president for the United States. Im here to join you in making a new declaration of independence for our entire nation." Kennedy emphasized the rising discontent in the country, highlighting both the dangers and opportunities that lie within.
The poll, which has a margin of error of 3.9 percent, provides a glimpse into the evolving dynamics of the 2024 presidential race. As Kennedy's candidacy gains traction, it remains to be seen how this will impact the support for both Biden and Trump in the coming months.
