President Biden has made a significant announcement regarding humanitarian aid to Gaza, as well as a substantial funding commitment from the United States.
Speaking in Tel Aviv during his visit to Israel following the recent terrorist attacks by Hamas, President Biden revealed that an agreement had been reached to allow the movement of humanitarian aid from Egypt to Gaza. He emphasized that this agreement was contingent upon inspections to ensure that the aid reaches civilians and not Hamas.
"Israel agreed the humanitarian assistance can begin to move from Egypt to Gaza," President Biden stated.
In addition to this agreement, President Biden confirmed that the United States would provide $100 million in funding to support over 1 million displaced and conflict-affected Palestinians, including emergency needs in Gaza. This funding comes at a crucial time, as Gaza has been facing a severe humanitarian crisis, with repeated Israeli strikes and limited access to essential resources such as food, water, and medicine.
The announcement by President Biden comes amid mounting pressure from world leaders to address the dire situation in Gaza. The recent hospital explosion, which resulted in the deaths of several hundred patients and refugees, further escalated tensions in the region. Protests targeting U.S. embassies and Israeli consulates in neighboring countries have added to the already volatile situation.
President Biden's trip to the Middle East was initially planned to include a meeting with Arab leaders in Jordan. However, this meeting was canceled after the hospital explosion, just before the President departed for Tel Aviv.
