President Biden is set to visit Israel amidst ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza, according to U.S. Secretary of State Blinken.
Blinken emphasized the significance of the visit, stating that it comes at a critical moment for Israel, the region, and the world.
The primary purpose of the visit is to reaffirm the United States' solidarity with Israel and its unwavering commitment to its security.
Blinken further highlighted President Biden's stance on Israel's right to defend itself against Hamas and other terrorist groups. He emphasized that the president has consistently supported Israel's efforts to protect its people, particularly in the wake of the devastating loss of lives caused by Hamas' actions. The visit will serve as a clear message to both state and non-state actors that any attempts to exploit the situation and attack Israel will not be tolerated.
However, President Biden has faced criticism from Republicans and other critics for allowing $6 billion of Iranian funds to be unfrozen as part of a prisoner swap deal. The administration maintains that these funds are strictly designated for humanitarian purposes. Nevertheless, the Iranian regime has openly admitted that they will be used for any purpose the country sees fit.
In addition to the ongoing conflict in Israel, there have been other attacks on civilians by individuals with alleged sympathies towards terrorists. In northern France, a teacher was stabbed to death at a school, and three others were injured by a man with ties to terrorism. Similarly, in Brussels, Belgium, a gunman killed two Swedes in an attack. Police suspect that the perpetrator may have declared allegiance to ISIS through social media videos.
President Biden's visit to Israel aims to demonstrate unwavering support for the country's security and send a strong message to those who seek to harm it. The ongoing conflict and recent attacks on civilians underscore the need for continued vigilance and international cooperation in combating terrorism.
