A missing North Carolina man has been found, but the story does not end well.
The New York Post reports that the missing man was found one month after he went missing, but it was just his dismembered body in a barrel behind the house of his alleged killer.
Jackie Lamar Bright has been charged with the murder of Michael Bradley Cox after police found evidence of Coxs body on Brights property on January 26, according to the Lee County Sheriffs Office. Cox had been missing since December 24. Bright has an extensive criminal history before.
The New York Post reports that police did not say what led them to search Brights property, but they had a search warrant to go onto the property and search for anything they wanted related to this case. They found a body in the barrel on the property, leading to the charges against Bright.
The barrel was hidden in a highly wooded area on Brights property and filled with concrete. Police said they anticipated finding a body in the barrel after they learned of this precisely what they found.
The sheriffs office released the following statement about it: The Medical Examiners Office removed the concrete and discovered a dismembered body inside of the barrel.
Bright, 42, had only been out of prison for a few months when Cox went missing.
The New York Post says that he was arrested on unrelated charges of a stolen vehicle on January 6, 2023, but he was released on bond. He was arrested again five days later for possessing a controlled substance.
NBC15 reports that police found a stolen side-by-side ATV on Brights property. It was on a hidden outbuilding on Brights property.
The motive for the alleged murder at this time is still not known. Bright has a lengthy criminal record, but it is still unclear why he might have murdered Cox.
