In a recent incident in Washington, D.C., Representative Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) was reportedly filmed in a confrontation with a reporter, who accused him of physical assault.
The incident occurred amidst a flurry of questions comparing Crenshaw to the late Senator John McCain.
The encounter took place outside the Capitol, where Crenshaw was approached by journalists from the National File. The publication identified Patrick Howley, its senior reporter, and publisher Noel Fritsch as the individuals who were questioning the congressman in the recorded interaction.
Crenshaw, a prominent Texas Republican, responded to the reporters' inquiries by labeling them as "miscreants". "There's usually not that many of you little miscreants," he retorted when asked about the House vote for the speaker.
Howley responded to Crenshaw's comment, stating, "The miscreants are taking back this town, my friend." Fritsch then posed a question about Crenshaw's comparison to McCain, asking, How do you like the moniker McCain that you got McCain 2.0?
Crenshaw's response was cut short as he made a jesting lunge towards the cameraman, warning, "Be careful." Fritsch then confronted Crenshaw, stating, America really hates you, dude. You know that? and Youre aware? Crenshaw retorted, You guys should get a job, before Fritsch labeled him a "parasite" and a member of the "parasite class."
As the group crossed a street, Crenshaw warned, "You're not doing a good job walking backwards, you're gonna fall," and later referred to them as "bottom feeders" as they neared a set of steps.
The National File alleges that at this point, Crenshaw "intentionally assaulted [the] National File publisher," adding a physical element to the heated exchange. The publication claims the video shows "Congressman Dan Crenshaw tripping National File publisher Noel Fritsch as he attempted to evade questions."
Following the stumble, Crenshaw can be heard saying, Careful. Dont be an idiot, and adding, Whats it like being an emasculated little turd?
The incident occurred on a tense day for Republicans, who were voting for a new House speaker following Kevin McCarthy's removal from office. Louisiana Representative Steve Scalise had just received 113 votes in a closed-door meeting, while Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio had garnered 99.
Both Howley and National File contributor Charles Downs confirmed to TimCast that Fritsch intended to file a police report regarding the incident.
Representative Crenshaw's office has not yet responded to requests for comment. This story will be updated with any official statements as they become available.
