He further announced that the United States is providing additional military assistance, including ammunition and interceptors, to replenish the Iron Dome defense system. The President emphasized the importance of ensuring that Israel has the necessary resources to defend its cities and citizens.
During the speech, President Biden also addressed the issue of Americans being taken hostage. He confirmed that Americans are among those being held captive and stated, "I've directed my team to share intelligence and deploy additional experts from across the United States government to consult with and advise Israeli counterparts on hostage recovery efforts." He emphasized that the safety of Americans held hostage is a top priority for his administration.
To strengthen deterrence in the region, President Biden announced that the United States has enhanced its military force posture. The USS Gerald Ford carrier strike group has been relocated to the eastern Mediterranean. In a strong message to potential aggressors, the President warned, "Any country, any organization, anyone thinking of taking advantage of the situation? I have one word: Don't."
Prior to the speech, President Biden and other US officials engaged in a virtual discussion with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The purpose of the talk was to coordinate efforts to support Israel, deter hostile actors, and protect innocent people.
In a somber update, President Biden revealed that 14 Americans have tragically lost their lives in the ongoing violence.
