Rep.
Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, is firing back at far-left member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez D-N.Y. on Wednesday after Ocasio-Cortez said that Jordan and fellow Republicans have been "weaponizing" the House Oversight Committee. She is upset because the House Oversight Committee has scheduled a hearing into why Twitter fought to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story during the 2020 election cycle.
Jordan spoke on "The Ingraham Angle" and said that the hearings are about getting to the core of the First Amendment. He stated:
"We're focused on the First Amendment, the right to free speech, the right to, you know, speak in a way that you can communicate on a platform that has now become the public square."
This has been a significant issue of contention as Twitter and other social media platforms have seemingly taken sides regarding which stories they will allow to circulate throughout the platforms and which ones they will try to suppress. It is something that conservatives have been upset about for some time because they feel this is the actual suppression of the vote.
Jordan continued to discuss why he and his fellow GOP members of the House are holding the hearings that they are. He said:
"I would come back to sort of the fundamental question, why is the FBI sending accounts to Twitter and saying, 'We think these violate your terms of service, Twitter.' Why are they doing that? I mean, it's one thing if it's really like some terrorist activity and they've got to do it."
Congress must get to the bottom of all this because social media companies may play a more significant role in the elections that we hold in this country than they ever should. Many people firmly believe that it is past time to get social media's thumb off the election scales.
