Gov. Youngkin Blasts New BLM Curriculum, Dems Hit Back Hard

According to a report by Fox News, Governor Glenn Youngkin of Virginia has aimed at a new curriculum pushed by the Black Lives Matter movement.

They report that the Virginia Education Association (VEA), a teachers union, released a toolkit that encouraged an initiative called the Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action. This was started by teachers in Seattle in 2016, and some are trying to spread it.

This week focuses on the 13 principles of the Black Lives Matter movement. A few of those principles include transgender affirming, queer affirming, restorative justice, and globalism.

VEAs director of human and civil rights released a statement about the situation, stating:

Enclosed is Virginia Education Associations Black Lives Matter at School Toolkit to be used as a resource guide for advancing racial justice in Virginias schools. Black Lives Matter at School is a national coalition organizing for racial justice in education.

They continued by saying: All educators, students, parents, unions, and community organizations are encouraged to join their annual week of action during the first week of February.

However, Governor Youngkins office insists that the group is trying to push a politically-driven agenda into the classroom.

Youngkins spokesperson said: Gov. Youngkin is empowering parents, restoring excellence in education, and has removed critical race theory from Virginias schools.

The VEAthe same union that kept schools shuttered and students at home during the pandemicis now attempting to inject a politically-driven curriculum toolkit in an effort to teach kids to discriminate against one another based off their color, gender, race, or background.

The controversial way of looking at the training, known as critical race theory, is something that Youngkin and allies believe needs to be more appropriate and desired by those in Virginia.

Fox News reports that critical race theory puts forward the idea that the United States is designed to oppress minority groups systematically and to maintain the power and rule of the white majority. This idea is highly offensive to many people who disagree with the concept and believe it minimizes so much that this country stands for. Many applaud the work of Youngkin and his allies related to how they have protected Virginia from the creeping influence of critical race theory in Virginia.

One of the nine executive orders Youngkin signed on his first day in office was an order that banned teaching critical race theory in Virginia.
