Billionaire Elon Musk embarked on a tour of the southern border in Texas on Thursday, shedding light on the ongoing immigration crisis and issuing a warning about the influx of migrants.
Musk, the owner of X and former Twitter user, was joined by Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales during his visit to Eagle Pass, a city that recently declared a state of emergency due to the unprecedented arrival of thousands of migrants.
Sporting a cowboy hat and aviator sunglasses, Musk live streamed his first-hand observations and expressed his support for expanded legal immigration. However, he emphasized that individuals who break the law should not be allowed to enter the United States. Musk acknowledged that while not all migrants are extreme, there are cases where individuals with facial tattoos, such as tear drops, have crossed the border. He explained that these tattoos symbolize the number of people they have killed, proudly displaying their acts of violence.
Gonzales, whose district covers a significant stretch along the border, confirmed Musk's statement about the presence of such individuals. The sheer volume of people entering the country has overwhelmed social services, with even New York City struggling to cope. Musk warned that if New York City, the largest city in America, cannot handle the influx, then no part of the country can. He stressed the urgent need to address the situation to prevent a collapse in social services, as already witnessed in New York.
According to Fox News, over 100,000 migrants have arrived in New York City since last year, placing immense strain on city services and finances. In a single day from Sunday to Monday, approximately 11,000 migrants crossed into the US from Mexico, marking the highest number in recent memory. Among them were around 4,000 who entered through Eagle Pass, some of whom crawled through razor wire and waded through the Rio Grande.
Data analyzed by the nonprofit Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) reveals that 1.23 million migrants have sought asylum by crossing the southern border in the past 11 months. Musk, originally from South Africa and an immigrant himself, engaged in discussions with law enforcement officials during his visit to the border. However, he encountered technical difficulties while recording a video, causing the live stream to abruptly end. Musk jokingly expressed concern that the high number of viewers might have crashed the system, highlighting the need for a more reliable internet connection, such as his Starlink satellite constellation from SpaceX.
