A mother in Ohio is pleading with the police to take action against her son, who she claims has been repeatedly involved in car thefts.
Tiffany Hammons has turned her 17-year-old son in multiple times, but she believes that the Columbus police are not doing enough to address the issue.
"I've been begging and pleading please arrest him, lock him up, do something that's going to make him pay for the things that he's out here doing," Hammons expressed her frustration to WBNS-TV.
According to WBNS, Columbus has seen a staggering number of car thefts this year, with 7,330 reported between January and August. Of those, 3,677 were Kia and Hyundai vehicles.
Hammons stated that her son has been caught stealing or crashing cars on multiple occasions, but the police keep bringing him back to her home. She believes that the lack of consequences is only fueling his desire to continue his criminal activities.
"I think him seeing that nothing is being done is giving him more of an adrenaline rush to go back out and do it again," Hammons explained.
Despite reporting each incident to the authorities, Hammons claims that her son has already crashed five cars since his release.
In addition to the car thefts, Hammons revealed that her son is also driving without a license, further exacerbating the situation. She expressed her exasperation with her son's alleged criminal behavior, questioning what more she can do.
"We're trying, but once they're here and they leave again, then what? What are we supposed to do?" Hammons asked.
This is not the first time Hammons has faced tragedy. In 2021, she spoke to WBNS after losing two of her brothers within a year, one to a gunshot wound and the other under mysterious circumstances. She emphasized the need for closure and understanding surrounding their deaths.
As Hammons continues to advocate for her son's accountability, she hopes that the police will take decisive action to address the ongoing car thefts and protect the community from further harm.
