Newly disclosed financial records reveal that the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr.
Anthony Fauci, and his wife, Christine Grady, had a combined net worth exceeding $11 million at the time of his departure from his government position.
The termination report for 2022, obtained by Fox News Digital through an open records request, provides a detailed account of Fauci's financial status up until his exit at the end of last year. The documents indicate that the couple's net worth increased by nearly $2 million since the onset of the pandemic, despite experiencing a dip in net worth from 2021 to 2022.
Adam Andrzejewski, CEO of OpenTheBooks, who had previously analyzed several years of Fauci's disclosures, was also privy to the document. "During the pandemic years, the Faucis became deca-millionaires with their household net worth exceeding $10 million," Andrzejewski informed Fox News Digital. "Last year was a tough year in the markets. However, Fauci's net worth is still up sharply from $7.6 million in 2019."
Andrzejewski further highlighted that "Before his retirement last December, Fauci was the highest-paid federal employee ($480,654) and significantly outearned the president ($400,000). In retirement, we estimate that Fauci is collecting a federal pension, which rivals a presidential salary. It's the largest federal retirement package in history."
The financial disclosures reveal that the Faucis' net worth increased from approximately $9.54 million in 2019 to $11.5 million at the end of 2022. This growth over the years was fueled by investment gains, awards, compensation, and royalties. However, they experienced a $1.1 million net worth decline from 2021 to 2022, reporting a combined net worth of $12.6 million in 2021.
Fauci's assets are spread across trust funds, retirement accounts, and college education accounts, with investments in mutual funds and no documented holdings of individual stocks. By the end of last year, Fauci's account balance totaled $9.25 million, while his wife, Christine Grady, the National Institutes of Health's chief bioethicist, contributed approximately $2.2 million.
Fauci's compensation also saw a nearly $25,000 increase between 2021 and 2022, maintaining his position as the highest-paid federal employee, earning more than President Biden. In 2022, Fauci received approximately $481,000 in compensation, an increase from the $456,000 he earned in 2021.
Fox News Digital reached out to Grady's government email account for a comment on their net worth but did not receive a response.
Fauci, who retired in December, has since joined Georgetown University as a Distinguished University Professor in the School of Medicine's Department of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases. The university describes this division as one that "provides clinical care, conducts research and trains future physicians in infectious diseases." Fauci will also hold an appointment in the university's McCourt School of Public Policy.
Fauci became a contentious figure during the pandemic. Last year, he acknowledged that he was aware that the "draconian" pandemic measures would have "collateral negative consequences" for the economy and schoolchildren. Despite these potential harms, Fauci defended the measures, stating, "But you have to make a balance when you're dealing with we know the only way to stop something cold in its track is to try and shut things down."
He further added, "But if you do it with the purpose of being able to regroup so that you can then open up in a more safe way, that's the best way to do it."
