A teenage driver has been apprehended following allegations that he deliberately used a car to collide with at least one vehicle and a cyclist in Las Vegas over the weekend.
Tragically, the cyclist, identified as Andreas Probst, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead after the incident.
Andreas Probst, a retired police chief with 35 years of service in law enforcement, was the victim in this horrific incident. The teenage driver is currently in police custody, facing charges related to the death of Probst, as well as being linked to several other vehicle thefts that occurred earlier that morning.
A video capturing the teenager behind the wheel, intentionally crashing into a car and a cyclist, has gone viral on social media. The footage, seemingly filmed by a passenger in the front seat, shows the disturbing events unfold.
In the video, a voice can be heard saying, "Alright go, go go go," just moments before the driver swerves and collides with a white Toyota Corolla. Another person in the vehicle can be heard shouting racial slurs and derogatory language.
Shortly after, someone says, "Get his ass," just before the driver runs over a man riding a bicycle on the side of the road. A person in the car exclaims, "That guy is knocked out!" The man struck by the car is believed to be Probst, who tragically lost his life as a result of the collision.
Viewer discretion is advised, as the video contains graphic content.
The Clark County coroner's office in Nevada has confirmed that the bicyclist, Andreas Probst, aged 64, passed away at University Medical Center.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Probst couple had been preparing to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary next month.
"Being around him, it was like being next to a ray of sunshine," expressed Taylor Probst, daughter of Andreas Probst. "He was always laughing, always smiling, offering you support, life advice, career advice."
In honor of Andreas Probst's love for cycling, a white ghost bike has been placed as a memorial to commemorate his life.
