President Biden has recently shared a new story about his upbringing, claiming that he was raised in Delaware synagogues.
During a phone call with rabbis ahead of the Jewish Holiday Rosh Hashanah, the president stated, "I, you might say, was raised in the synagogues of my state. You think I'm kidding, I'm not." He specifically mentioned the Beth Shalom congregation in Wilmington, Delaware, as "the home of countless friends for me."
Biden emphasized the universal message of the High Holidays, stating, "it's never too late to repent, to change, to begin anew."
However, it is worth noting that Biden has never previously mentioned his ties to the Jewish community, including in his memoirs "Promises to Keep" (2007) and "Promise Me, Dad" (2017). This raises questions about the authenticity of his claim.
This is not the first time President Biden has made statements that appear to invent a personal backstory in an attempt to connect with his audience. Last year, he claimed to have been raised in the Puerto Rican community during his time as a Congressman, despite never previously mentioning any links to the community.
Similarly, during a visit to a Mack Truck facility in July 2021, Biden claimed that he "used to drive an 18-wheeler," a statement that has been met with skepticism.
The President has also made false statements about being arrested while protesting for civil rights. These claims, along with his alleged encounter with the infamous Delaware pool gangster Corn Pop, have not been verified.
