Los Angeles Mayor Fears Texas Governor Abbott's 'Aircraft Invasion' Of Illegal Immigrants

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has voiced her apprehension regarding the potential actions of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who she fears may soon dispatch aircraft loaded with undocumented immigrants to Los Angeles, a sanctuary city.

This follows a recent incident where Abbott transported busloads of individuals from the southern border to the Californian city, a move that Bass labeled as "evil."

During an Axios event held in Los Angeles on Thursday, Bass articulated that while the city is open to immigrants, she is critical of the methods employed by Republican governors of border states in relocating them.

In response to a query on whether the Biden administration should extend more assistance to sanctuary cities, Bass responded with an emphatic "absolutely." She highlighted the struggles faced by New York in managing the enormous influx of people. New York's Eric Adams has previously stated that the city is on the brink of destruction due to the additional 10,000 individuals arriving monthly without resources, income, or support.

"We live in a city that welcomes immigrants," Bass stated, "and so I think we have been able to handle it, but I am fearful that any day, planes could start coming."

Bass expressed her disgust at Abbott's decision to send 12 buses of migrants from Texas to Los Angeles last month, amidst threats of a hurricane. She questioned why Abbott had not contacted her to coordinate their arrival. Texas is grappling with the significant impact of illegal immigration, with hundreds of thousands of individuals entering the state each month.

Bass accused Abbott and his counterparts of attempting to destabilize cities, citing the relocation of migrants to Chicago, Washington, New York, and Los Angeles. "It's the narrative that these are Democratic-run cities, and that we don't know how to govern, and that everything is chaotic here. This is just setting the stage for the presidential election next year." Texas and other border states have been dealing with the repercussions of Biden's relaxed border policies for years.

As reported by the Associated Press, Abbott has defended his decision to relocate migrants out of Texas to northern cities, reminding critics that these cities have declared themselves sanctuaries for such individuals.
