Whats happening with Twitter, the FBI, and the Hunter Biden laptop? Thats what House Republicans want to know.
On Wednesday, after over four hours, the Oversight Committee hearing was expected to investigate big tech and Hunter. Still, Twitter officials handling of the tell-tale laptop was added into the mix.
During questioning, ex-Twitter employees restated what they had openly admitted: that blocking the Hunter Biden laptop story may have been the wrong call. In 2020, they censored a New York Post breaking story regarding Hunter and his laptop. On Wednesday, James Baker, former Twitter deputy general counsel, Yoel Roth, former head of Twitters trust and safety, and Vijaya Gadde, Twitters ex-policy director, stated they could not remember some facts about the decision to suppress The Posts story.
Politico reported that Twitter officials had been played by the FBI, according to Ohio Republican Representative Jim Jordan, chair of the Judiciary Committee and member of the Oversight Committee. He was referring to claims the FBI had urged Twitter to block the story.
According to the New York Post, Jordan asked Baker, Simple question, did you talk to the FBI about the Hunter Biden story? Baker replied, To the best of my recollection, I did not talk to the FBI about the Hunter Biden story before that day. That day when The Post published its first report on October 14, 2020.
When Jordan pressed with, Did you talk to them after? Baker responded, I do not recall.
The NY Post reported North Dakota Republican Representative Kelly Armstrong thought the memory lapses to be incredible, saying it did not pass the smell test.
Oversight Committee Chair Republican James Comer of Kentucky said, The Biden family investigation is a story about how big tech, the media, former intelligence agents, and the Bidens themselves suppressed the story of Hunter Bidens laptop weeks before the 2020 election.
According to Politico, Democrat Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland said, Instead of letting this trivial pursuit go, my Republican colleagues have tried to whip up a faux-scandal about this two-day lapse in their ability to spread Hunter Biden propaganda on a private media platform. Silly does not begin to describe this obsession.
Democrats, in an attempt to downplay the Republicans ire, said the GOP is fixating on an event two years old as if the passage of time should matter. Republicans continue to point out that the Twitter decision to quash the story was an attempt to allow social media to affect the 2020 presidential campaign in Joe Bidens favor.
