Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour took issue with comments made by former bandmate and Pink Floyd founding member Roger Waters on Twitter on Monday.
Fox News reported that he tweeted about Waters' history of antisemitic views and his recent positive comments about Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Gilmour endorsed a post by his wife, author Polly Samson, who aimed at Waters' political views and his flaws in her view. She alleges that he has these views and these flaws, but those are just her personal opinions and are not necessarily the reality of the situation. It entirely depends on who you ask about this situation.
She stated that Waters is an antisemite and that he is also a hypocrite and lip-synched. Gilmour endorsed the post and stated that it is all "demonstrably true," according to reporting by Fox News.
The full tweet from Samson read: "Sadly @rogerwaters you are antisemitic to your rotten core. Also, a Putin apologist and a lying, thieving, hypocritical, tax-avoiding, lip-synching, misogynistic, sick-with-envy, megalomaniac. Enough of your nonsense." Gilmour piled on to it by saying that his wife's post is entirely true and accurate.
Waters has claimed in the past that the Russian invasion of Ukraine was due to provocation by "extreme nationalists" in Ukraine. That seems to be at least one of the states with which Gilmour and Samson took issue.
Fox News Digital also reported that Waters criticized the United States and Great Britain for supplying weapons to Ukraine to help them attempt to defend themselves against the weapons of Russia. Therefore, it is very likely that this was of concern to both Gilmour and Samson.
There have been many public feuds between Waters and other band members after Waters decided to leave the band in 1985. Fox News reported that Waters took legal action to get the remaining band members to stop using the Pink Floyd name. Waters has continued to perform under his name and still performs many Pink Floyd songs.
Waters and Gilmour have reunited a few times in recent years to perform some songs, but there has yet to be a severe reunion of the band members, and most doubt that this will happen anytime soon. There is too much distance between band members at this time for such a reunion to be possible anytime soon.
