In a recent development, the Center for American Liberty disclosed that a female who had undergone gender transition as a minor, only to later realize her true identity as a female, is now pursuing legal action against the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
The center is accused of persuading her into undergoing a double mastectomy at the tender age of 16.
The lawsuit alleges that Luka Hein was "stripped of her femininity" when the medical practitioners hastily recommended breast removal surgery without considering alternative solutions to her gender dysphoria. These could have included counseling or other less intrusive treatments.
Hein, who has a long history of mental health challenges, was diagnosed with "gender identity disorder" by the defendant, Dr. Perry Johnson, during her initial consultation. The lawsuit alleges that Johnson disregarded Hein's mental health history and instead immediately began preparations for the double mastectomy surgery.
The complaint states, "On July 26, 2018, Dr. Johnson, alongside resident physician Dr. Stephan Barrientos, surgically removed the healthy breasts of 16-year-old Luka Hein while training in plastic surgery at UNMC. Post-surgery, the pathology report revealed no lesions, masses, or nodules, confirming that the doctors had permanently removed the healthy breasts of a 16-year-old girl who was incapable of consenting to this irreversible procedure due to her age and complex psycho-social situation."
The Center for American Liberty argues that the surgery performed by Dr. Johnson and Dr. Barrientos was in direct violation of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons' recommendation. The society suggests that girls should be 'at least 18 years of age' for aesthetic breast surgery due to their emotional maturity.
The center further added, "Although Luka was not seeking augmentation, the need for emotional and physical maturity to ensure a sound decision applies even more poignantly to a mentally distressed teenage patient."
The lawsuit also highlights Hein's troubled childhood, marked by academic struggles, panic attacks, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts, leading to a decline in her mental health. Hein began questioning her gender identity and sought guidance from online transgender influencers who advocated gender transitioning through hormones and surgery.
Consequently, Hein started identifying as a boy, under the impression that transitioning would alleviate her mental health issues.
The complaint further alleges, "By rushing Luka to surgery without first placing her on hormone treatments for at least one year, Defendants violated even the pro-transgender World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) standard of care for breast removal surgery."
Moreover, Hein was prescribed testosterone by Defendant Dr. Jean Amoura "who failed to fully explain the serious harm that testosterone would wreak on Luka if she were to stay on it for an extended time," according to the complaint. It also states that Luka was on testosterone for four years.
Dr. Amoura had also suggested that Hein undergo a hysterectomy as the next step in her "gender transition." However, Hein's parents declined to give their consent, telling Amoura, "Lots of kids have mental health issues. That doesn't mean we sterilize them!"
The lawsuit accuses the defendants of multiple counts of gross negligence.
Hein is now among other detransitioners, including Chloe Cole and Layla Jane, represented by the Center for American Liberty, who are holding radical medical professionals accountable for the physical harm inflicted on minors under their care.
