In a recent incident in Chicago, a group of communist revolutionaries set fire to several American flags outside a concert by country music star Jason Aldean.
The act was captured in videos that have since circulated online.
The protesters were members of the Revolutionary Communist Party (RevCom), a group that advocates for a Marxist revolution in the United States. They refer to America as "the belly of the imperialist beast," according to statements on the RevCom website.
The incident took place on Saturday night, with the RevCom activists setting the flags ablaze before law enforcement intervened. Police declared the gathering an unlawful assembly, stating that the activists' actions had "alarmed and disturbed others," as reported by News2Share, the outlet that captured the videos.
RevCom's website further elaborates on their mission, stating, "The Revolutionary Communist Party has taken on the responsibility to lead a revolution in the U.S., the belly of the imperialist beast, as its principal share of the world revolution and the ultimate aim of communism."
The group's manifesto also praises Mao Zedong, particularly his use of the "scientific method" and certain aspects of his Cultural Revolution.
Following the flag-burning, the RevCom members chanted, "We did it in a small town! We did it in a small town!" This appears to be a reference to Aldean's controversial song, "Try That In A Small Town," which has been criticized for its perceived criticism of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Aldean's song, released in May, faced backlash after its music video debuted on July 14. Despite the controversy, the song quickly rose to the top of the iTunes chart.
In response to the criticism, Aldean took to social media to address the controversy surrounding "Try That In A Small Town." He stated, "In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests. These references are not only meritless, but dangerous."
