During an interview in Jakarta, Indonesia, CBS anchor Margaret Brennan questioned Kamala Harris about her preparedness for a potential second Trump presidency.
The exchange was part of an interview that aired on Sunday's edition of Face the Nation.
Brennan raised concerns about President Biden's age, citing a poll by The Wall Street Journal that revealed two-thirds of Democrats believe he is too old to run again. She asked Harris if she was ready to assume the role of commander-in-chief if necessary.
In response, Harris expressed confidence in Biden's ability to lead, stating, "Yes, I am, if necessary. But Joe Biden is going to be fine." She went on to highlight the transformative impact of Biden's leadership, particularly in areas such as infrastructure investment, including roads, bridges, high-speed internet, and addressing issues like lead pipes.
Brennan then pressed Harris on whether she was taking the threat of a second Trump presidency seriously enough. Harris appeared taken aback by the question, responding, "I don't understand the question."
Brennan continued by pointing out that the former President is currently leading in Republican nomination polls. Harris began to assert her belief in winning reelection, stating, "We will win reelection. There is too much at stake and the American people know it."
Recent polls indicate that Biden and Trump are currently in a virtual tie.
The interview provided insight into Harris' confidence in Biden's leadership and her determination to secure a second term. While Brennan's questions highlighted concerns within the Democratic Party about Biden's age and the potential for a Trump comeback, Harris remained steadfast in her belief that the Biden administration will prevail in the next election. As the race for the presidency continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how these dynamics will shape the political landscape.
