In a recent incident in Richmond, Indiana, a woman attempted to obstruct a police search for drugs by faking a heart attack.
However, her ploy was unsuccessful, leading to the discovery of a sandwich bag, roughly the size of an avocado, concealed within her person. The bag was found to contain methamphetamine, Fentanyl, and crack cocaine.
Amanda Smith, a 41-year-old woman, was apprehended on Monday and is now facing three felony charges. These include dealing in a narcotic drug, dealing in cocaine, and dealing in a controlled substance, according to WXIN.
This is not Smith's first encounter with the law. In early July, she was accused of luring a woman to a residence in Richmond under the pretense of selling her a ring. Smith allegedly assaulted the woman, punching her multiple times in the face before making off with her wallet and phone.
Following this incident, Smith was charged with robbery resulting in bodily injury, a Level 3 felony in the state, and criminal confinement. However, she was released shortly after posting two separate cash bonds in July.
Smith's latest run-in with the law occurred after a Wayne County Sheriff's deputy observed her interacting with known drug users at a Philipp 66 gas station in Richmond. Recognizing Smith, the deputy followed her vehicle and initiated a traffic stop after she failed to use a turn signal and drove down the center of the road.
According to the deputy's report, Smith feigned a heart attack when a K9 unit indicated the presence of drugs. She reportedly began yelling and screaming that she was having a heart attack, but refused to allow Richmond EMS to conduct a medical evaluation.
Upon arrival at the hospital, Smith declined to change out of her clothes. She requested to use the restroom, raising suspicions that she was attempting to evade a drug search. When she finally agreed to change in front of nurses, she confessed to having fentanyl in her underwear. During the process, nurses reportedly noticed a sandwich bag concealed within her person.
Despite a full-body scan conducted by the jail revealing an "abnormality in her pelvic area," Smith continued to deny concealing anything. She eventually admitted to hiding drugs within her person.
The authorities discovered 38.9 grams of meth, 10.4 grams of crack cocaine, and 9.2 grams of fentanyl, as per the report. An untested fine white powder, wrapped and stowed inside the plastic bag, was also found.
Despite facing six felony charges over the past three months, Smith managed to post bail on Tuesday after a brief stay at Wayne County Jail.
