Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has announced that he has pardoned Scott Smith, the Loudoun County father who protested against the sexual assault of his daughter and the subsequent cover-up by her public school.
The announcement was made during an interview with Shannon Bream on Fox News Sunday.
According to Governor Youngkin, he spoke with Mr. Smith on Friday and informed him of the decision to grant him a pardon. The pardon was signed on the same day. Governor Youngkin expressed his belief that Mr. Smith should never have been prosecuted, stating, "We righted a wrong. He should've never been prosecuted here. This was a dad standing up for his daughter."
The incident in question involved Mr. Smith's daughter being sexually assaulted in a school bathroom, with no action being taken by the school administration. Governor Youngkin accused the school superintendent of covering up the incident.
He emphasized that Mr. Smith's actions were those of a concerned parent, stating, "Mr. Smith did what any father would do, what any parent would do, which is stand up for their child. This was a gross miscarriage of justice."
This pardon comes as a significant development in the ongoing controversy surrounding the handling of sexual assault cases in Virginia schools. It highlights Governor Youngkin's commitment to addressing the concerns of parents and ensuring justice for victims of such incidents.
