In a shocking daylight assault in Chicago's Chinatown, an Uber driver was brutally attacked by three women, one of whom was armed with a pipe.

The incident, which was captured on police surveillance video, occurred at the intersection of 22nd Place and Princeton Avenue.

The victim, 62-year-old Danxin Shi, had just returned home when he was set upon by the trio who proceeded to steal his car keys. Speaking to WFLD, Shi recounted the terrifying ordeal, "Three Black females jump on me, hold me, and grab me and took my car key."

The surveillance footage paints a chilling picture of the assault. Two women can be seen forcing Shi to the ground, with a third joining in shortly after. One of the women is seen brandishing a pipe, which she used to strike Shi.

Following the assault, the women reportedly seized Shi's car keys and made off with his vehicle. Despite Shi's valiant attempt to halt their escape by climbing onto the hood of the car, the women managed to speed away. "I tried to block them, but I can't because they're starting the car," Shi explained.

Despite the harrowing experience, Shi is reported to be in good spirits, albeit nursing scrapes and bruises from the attack. Mike Poppish, from the Chicago Police Department's 9th District, praised Shi's courage, stating, "He is a brave man, thats sometimes what we need as a police department, is people that are not afraid to step forward and tell their story."

Community activist Andrew Holmes has urged the public to assist in identifying the assailants. "This is somebodys grandfather, somebodys father, somebodys uncle, but [the vehicle] hasnt been recovered yet, he worked to get this car, he earned this car, you didnt so what do you want it for," Holmes implored.

Holmes also had a message for the parents of the attackers, "To the mothers and fathers of these young ladies, if you see this on TV, you know this is your daughter, your family, you know this is her, turn them in."

A $1,000 reward has been offered for any information leading to the arrest of the three women. This incident comes amidst reports of a decrease in carjackings in Chicago this summer, but a concurrent rise in car thefts.
