The Lone Star State of Texas has dispatched its twelfth bus filled with migrants to Los Angeles, California.
The bus arrived on Monday morning, a week following the decision of city leaders to consider legal action against Texas.
The office of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass confirmed the arrival of the bus at Union Station around 7:15 a.m. on Monday. According to FOX 11 in LA, the bus was transporting migrants from various countries including Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Russia, and Venezuela. The group comprised 23 men, 20 women, and 21 children.
Zach Seidle, the citys deputy mayor of communications and spokesperson for the mayor, stated, "The city has continued to work with city departments, the county, and a coalition of nonprofit organizations, in addition to our faith partners, to execute a plan set in place earlier this year. As we have before, when we became aware of the bus yesterday, we activated our plan."
This arrival comes in the wake of the Los Angeles City Council's unanimous vote to explore a lawsuit and criminal investigation against Texas over its migrant busing program. The council members have requested the city attorneys office to examine whether Texas Governor Greg Abbott has committed any crimes through the program and to determine the validity of the lawsuit.
Since the inception of Abbotts program on June 14, a total of 435 migrants have been transported to LA. Overall, the program has dispatched over 30,000 migrants to Democrat-led cities across the U.S., including New York City, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
Abbotts office, in a statement to Fox News Digital last Thursday, underscored LAs status as a sanctuary city as a rationale for sending the migrants there. The statement also mentioned that the migrants on the buses sign a multi-language consent waiver indicating their destination.
Andrew Mahaleris, Abbott's spokesman, criticized the LA City Council members in the statement, saying, "The LA City Council members are complete hypocrites. In June, they unanimously voted to become a sanctuary city, welcoming migrants to the city. Texas began busing migrants to sanctuary cities like Los Angeles last year to provide relief to our overrun and overwhelmed border communities."
Mahaleris further added, "Instead of complaining about dealing with a fraction of the border crisis our small border towns deal with every day, the City Council should call on President Biden to take immediate action to secure the bordersomething the President continues failing to do."
The LA City Council members had approved a motion on June 9 to formally establish the city as a sanctuary city. Governor Abbott has continued to arrange these trips as Texass border region is "overwhelmed" with immigrants who cross the Mexican border illegally.
