A motorist who had been trapped at the bottom of a ravine for nearly five days after his truck tumbled about 100 feet down a Southern California bluff has been rescued, according to authorities.

The Kern County Fire Department responded to a report of a severely damaged pickup at the base of a steep hill southeast of Bakersfield on Saturday. Upon arrival, a firefighter was lowered down with a rope and discovered that the motorist had been injured and trapped inside the truck since crashing last Tuesday near Stallion Springs, as reported by the department's incident report.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, three additional firefighters were lowered into the ravine to assist. They successfully placed the individual, who remains unidentified, in a rescue basket and pulled him to safety. Following the rescue, the individual was airlifted to an undisclosed hospital, officials confirmed.

The California Highway Patrol and the Stallion Springs Police Department played a crucial role in the successful rescue operation, providing support and coordination throughout the process.

As of Sunday, the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities are working diligently to determine the factors that led to the accident, shedding light on any potential contributing factors.
