Vice President Kamala Harris has faced criticism for having numerous work days with no public events on her schedule since the launch of the Biden-Harris reelection campaign, according to an analysis by the Daily Caller.
The analysis found that on days when Harris did have something on her schedule, it often consisted of just one event for the entire day. These events included having lunch with President Joe Biden, receiving briefings with the President, and dining with foreign leaders.
Harris was prominently featured in the campaign materials for the Biden-Harris reelection campaign, appearing front and center on the website and launch video. However, since the campaign launch on April 25, she has primarily appeared alongside Biden in debt ceiling negotiations and at various ceremonies. When she has been on her own, Harris has traveled across the country to give speeches on maternal health, climate change, and the Inflation Reduction Act.
In May, Harris had no public events scheduled for five weekdays. On nine days during the month, she only had one activity on her calendar, which ranged from morning briefings with the President to hosting foreign leaders for brunch. Her busiest days in May included convening a roundtable with people of color who own small businesses, meeting with congressional leaders, and delivering remarks at the We Are EMILY Gala.
June was another month with several weekdays where Harris had no public events scheduled. She had one day with only lunch with the President on her schedule, one day attending a Juneteenth concert, one day receiving a briefing with the President, and one day meeting the Indian prime minister on the South Lawn and having lunch with him the following day.
July followed a similar pattern, with Harris having no public events scheduled for five weekdays and only one activity on her schedule for five other days. These activities ranged from speaking after the President signed a proclamation to meeting with state attorney generals about the Fentanyl crisis.
In August, Harris had a total of nine work days with no public activities scheduled. Some days were dedicated to delivering campaign remarks and speeches on infrastructure and climate. She also took a nine-day vacation from August 16 to August 24.
Despite inquiries, neither Harris' office nor the Biden-Harris campaign responded to questions about her public schedule.
President Biden has also faced criticism for spending extended periods away from the Oval Office during the campaign. In August, he set a personal record by going on two week-long vacations. However, he has also held rallies and focused on promoting his legislative agenda, including low drug prices, abortion, and the Inflation Reduction Act.
As the Biden-Harris reelection campaign continues, the public will be watching closely to see how both the President and Vice President balance their campaign activities with their official duties.
