As the 2024 presidential election draws near, the specter of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to loom large, with the virus seemingly as relentless as the political candidates vying for the nation's highest office.
This observation is not lost on Lauren Chen, a prominent conservative commentator.
"COVID part two appears to be making a comeback. The pandemic is striking back," Chen observes. "In my view, many have been too hasty in moving on, forgetting that there were instances where neighbors were reporting each other to the police for having guests over."
Chen further emphasizes the human toll of the pandemic, noting, "There were individuals who, tragically, were unable to see their loved ones in their final moments."
The importance of remembering these experiences is paramount, Chen argues, as the potential for history to repeat itself is all too real. In fact, it appears to be doing so already.
California-based production company Lionsgate has reinstated a mask mandate for certain employees following a handful of positive COVID-19 tests among its staff. The mandate, communicated via email, requires employees to "wear a medical-grade face covering (surgical mask, KN95, or N95) when indoors except when alone in an office with the door closed, actively eating, actively drinking at their desk or workstation, or if they are the only individual present in a large open workspace."
Chen, however, questions the fear that continues to surround the virus. "If you are still afraid of COVID in this day and age, you havent been paying attention and you should probably seek help from a mental health professional, rather than place all of your concern in something like COVID," she asserts.
The reintroduction of mask mandates is not exclusive to Hollywood studios. Morris Brown College has also reinstated a mask mandate for its students and staff in response to reports of positive COVID-19 cases among its student body.
Chen challenges this approach, comparing COVID-19 to the flu. "Yes, the fatality rates for COVID are very similar to that of the flu. Do we institute mask mandates for the flu now? Absolutely not. We understand that we live in a society where people get sick. So, the fact that some people out there still have this irrational fear when it comes to COVID... Its not based in science. Its not based in medicine. This is an ideological thing," she contends.
