From Hero To Handcuffs: Former Navy SEAL Who Claimed To Kill Osama Bin Laden Arrested In Texas

Former Navy SEAL Robert J. O'Neill, who gained notoriety for claiming to have killed Osama bin Laden, was arrested in Texas this week.

The 47-year-old was taken into custody on Wednesday in Frisco and charged with assault causing bodily injury and public intoxication, according to The Dallas Morning News. O'Neill was released the same day after posting a $3,500 bond.

The arrest occurred while O'Neill was in town to record a podcast at a local cigar lounge. Despite multiple attempts to reach him for comment, the former SEAL did not respond to The Post's request.

O'Neill rose to prominence after publicly taking credit for firing the shots that killed Osama bin Laden during a covert raid in 2011. He detailed the mission in his 2017 memoir, "The Operator." However, the United States government has neither confirmed nor denied O'Neill's account.

This recent arrest is not O'Neill's first brush with controversy. Last year, he was banned by Delta Airlines for refusing to wear a mask. In 2016, he was arrested for driving under the influence in Montana, although the charges were later dropped, as reported by CBS News.

In addition to his military background, O'Neill is also involved in the business world. He is one of the backers of Armed Forces Brewing Co., a Virginia-based microbrewery that gained attention due to the controversy surrounding Bud Light's sponsorship of LGBTQ influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

As the legal proceedings unfold, O'Neill's arrest in Texas adds another chapter to his complex and often controversial life.
