President Joe Biden faced criticism from conservatives on social media for what they perceived as a celebratory gesture in the midst of former President Trump's arrest in Georgia.
Biden took to X.com, formerly known as Twitter, to share a fundraising link, stating, "Apropos of nothing, I think today's a great day to give to my campaign." This post coincided with Trump's booking into the Fulton County Jail on charges related to his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
The President's post drew backlash from conservatives online. Thomas Meads, an opinion writer for the Daily Wire, accused Biden of "spiking the football." Judicial Watch founder Tom Fitton criticized Biden for using Trump's arrest to raise campaign funds, suggesting that it was not a genuine prosecution. GOP Sen. Eric Schmitt echoed these sentiments, implying that the arrest was politically motivated.
In response, Trump's campaign also seized the opportunity to fundraise, posting a request for donations on Truth Social, accompanied by Trump's mugshot taken at the jail.
The White House did not immediately provide a comment when approached by Fox News.
Trump himself expressed his discomfort with having his mugshot taken during his processing at the Fulton County Jail. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, he stated, "It's not a comfortable feelingespecially when you've done nothing wrong."
Trump voluntarily turned himself in at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday night. The charges against him stem from District Attorney Fani Willis' investigation into his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election in the state.
