Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina Governor, took aim at entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy during the first Republican primary debate on Wednesday evening, criticizing his lack of foreign policy experience.
Haley specifically called out Ramaswamy for his failure to support Ukraine against Russia, warning that if Russia were to take Ukraine, Poland and the Baltics would be next, potentially leading to a world war. She also highlighted the alleged murders attributed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating, "This guy is a murderer, and you are choosing a murderer over a pro-American country!"
Haley's remarks were met with applause from many members of the audience, and a heated exchange ensued between her and Ramaswamy. In response to Haley's criticism, Ramaswamy jokingly wished her success in her future career on the boards of Lockheed and Raytheon, to which Haley vehemently denied any involvement with those companies.
She then proceeded to list various foreign policy disagreements she had with Ramaswamy, including his stance on Israel. Haley concluded her remarks by asserting that Ramaswamy's lack of foreign policy experience would make America less safe.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie also joined in the criticism of Ramaswamy during the debate. Christie, who was on the attack for much of the evening, compared Ramaswamy's speaking style to that of ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence application.
He further drew a parallel between Ramaswamy and former President Barack Obama, who had been similarly questioned about his qualifications during a debate. Christie expressed concern that Ramaswamy's lack of experience could result in amateur decision-making.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump opted not to participate in the Fox News debate, instead choosing to release an hourlong interview with Tucker Carlson just minutes before the debate began. The video quickly gained traction on social media, amassing tens of millions of views.
