A Texas man, legally armed, reportedly defended himself and others from an aggressive assailant at a local BBQ restaurant, as per police reports.
The incident occurred at Woodys Smokehouse in Centerville, Texas, around noon on August 14.
The alleged assailant, identified as Kevin Craig Anderson from Houston, entered the restaurant and began to harass several customers. The entire episode was captured on the restaurant's surveillance video. Anderson then proceeded to the restroom where he attacked an elderly patron, beating him unconscious and continuing the assault even as the victim lay helpless on the floor, police reported.
Another patron, a licensed gun owner, intervened to assist the elderly man but was also assaulted by Anderson. In response to the attack, the man shot Anderson twice in self-defense, hitting him in the right arm.
Following the shooting, Anderson fled the scene, but was later found by police in his vehicle on the side of a highway. "He was transported by helicopter to St. Joseph emergency room in Bryan and then later transported to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston to be treated for his injuries," stated the Leon County Sheriff's Office. The elderly victim was also taken to St. Josephs Hospital for treatment.
The Sheriff's Office did not indicate that the shooter would face any charges. The incident is currently under investigation by the Leon County Sheriffs Office and Texas Rangers.
