Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman surprised social media users on Saturday with a new look that drew comparisons to the iconic character Walter White from the hit TV show "Breaking Bad."
Fetterman took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a selfie showcasing his new appearance, which included a pair of blocky eyeglasses, a bushy mustache, and the absence of his signature gray goatee. The senator revealed that he had lost a bet with his 13-year-old son, Karl, but did not provide details about the wager.
The photo immediately sparked a flurry of reactions on social media. Some critics took the opportunity to make snarky comments, with one person sarcastically remarking, "Breaking sad." Others referenced Walter White's famous line, "I am the one who knocks," by altering Fetterman's portrait and adding the caption, "Am I the knocks who one?" This playful jab was meant to mock the senator's occasional verbal stumbles following his stroke in 2022.
However, not all the responses were negative. Charles Mathewes, a professor at the University of Virginia, saw a resemblance to Walter White and commented, "Got a bit of Walter White there, useful for negotiations." This positive remark highlighted Fetterman's potential to channel the character's determination and resourcefulness.
Fetterman's stroke, which occurred in May of last year, left him with hearing and cognitive issues. Despite this, he chose not to disclose the full extent of his disability during the Democratic Senate primary in Pennsylvania. A recent poll conducted in June revealed that 50% of Pennsylvania voters disapprove of Fetterman's job performance, while only 39% approve.
