DeSantis Exposes The Left's Relentless Assault On Religious Freedom And Parental Rights

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued a warning, asserting that the Left's relentless attacks on religious freedom and parental rights are part of a larger effort to impose their pseudo-religious "orthodoxy" on society.

Speaking at The Gathering, an event hosted by radio host Erick Erickson at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead, DeSantis, a prominent Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election, highlighted the Left's unwavering commitment to their ideology, which he likened to a religion. He emphasized that this ideology is not rooted in faith in God, but rather in a devotion to leftist principles.

DeSantis responded to a question from Erickson about how parents advocating for a say in their children's education have become the enemy. The governor expressed concern that the Left believes their agenda should take precedence over parental rights, disregarding any conflicts that may arise.

He further warned that the Left treats religious liberty in the same manner, citing the case of Coach Joe Kennedy, who lost his job for praying on the football field. Although the Supreme Court ultimately upheld Kennedy's religious freedom and reinstated him, DeSantis argued that the case should never have reached that level.

DeSantis contended that the fact that such cases even make it to the Supreme Court indicates a lack of strength in protecting religious liberty. He criticized the Left's perspective, stating that they believe individuals' right to practice their faith ceases when it clashes with their own agenda.

DeSantis referenced the Supreme Court case of 303 Creative v. Elenis, which centered on free speech. The court ruled in favor of a web designer who refused to create websites for same-sex weddings, deeming the state law that compelled the designer to do so as a violation of the First Amendment.

DeSantis questioned whether the three justices who dissented in this case would have done so if the compelled speech were conservative in nature. He cautioned that the Left views rights like religious freedom as privileges granted by the elites, which can be revoked when they conflict with their agenda. The governor asserted that the family and faith are the foundation of society, and the Left is currently launching an assault on these fundamental pillars.

DeSantis also condemned the weaponization of federal agencies such as the FBI and the Department of Justice, highlighting the targeting of traditional Roman Catholics by the Richmond FBI office. He argued that the Founding Fathers foresaw this abuse of power and established a system of checks and balances to prevent any one branch of government from gaining unchecked authority.

He also criticized the growth of the administrative state, which has allowed these agencies to wield law enforcement as a weapon against conservatives. He called for a shift in power, urging the people to assert their will over the administrative state.
