In a chilling incident, a California mother stumbled upon a deceased woman, encased in plastic, in her son's bedroom.
The mother, who wishes to remain anonymous, was investigating a peculiar odor resembling gas that was wafting from her son's room around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, as per police reports. Upon entering the room, she was met with the horrifying sight of a lifeless woman's body, meticulously wrapped in plastic.
Emergency medical services were immediately summoned to the South Central residence, where the woman was officially pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased was later confirmed by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Officer as 30-year-old Hannah Rachel Collins. The circumstances surrounding Collins' death remain shrouded in mystery, with the authorities yet to disclose the cause of death or any potential connection between the victim and the suspect.
The primary suspect in this case is a 26-year-old Hispanic male, whose identity has not been disclosed by the police. LAPD Homicide Detective Ryan Rabbett stated that the case is currently classified as an "undetermined death investigation," with the final determination pending an autopsy and comprehensive toxicology report.
The Los Angeles Medical Examiner has completed the autopsy of Collins, but the cause of death remains elusive. Public information specialist Kelly Vail indicated that the final determination could take anywhere between "four to six months," contingent on further investigation and toxicology tests.
Collins, originally from Mississippi, had been visiting friends in Los Angeles since June and was due to return home this month, according to her mother. She had recently celebrated her 30th birthday on August 1. Her mother described her as a kind and thoughtful individual, raised with strong religious values, and possessing a vibrant, outgoing personality.
In an emotional interview with Fox News, the bereaved mother expressed her anguish, stating, "Someone murdered my daughter that's homicide." She questioned the secrecy surrounding the suspect's identity and expressed her concerns about the timeline of events. "I don't even know how long she was dead. Did his mother give him time to run then call [police]? Something is not right here," she said. She also revealed that she has not yet been contacted by detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department.
