Elon Musk has dropped more hints about his highly anticipated showdown with Mark Zuckerberg, suggesting that it will take place at the iconic Colosseum in Rome.
In a tweet on Friday, Musk revealed that a location had been agreed upon and that the fight would be organized by their respective foundations, rather than the UFC. He also mentioned that the livestream of the event would be available on his platform and Meta, with the entire camera frame reflecting an ancient Rome theme.
Musk's reference to the Colosseum as the venue for the fight is reminiscent of the film "Gladiator," although it should be noted that the movie was actually filmed at a replica in Malta. Nevertheless, Musk assured his followers that everything would be done to pay respect to the past and present of Italy. In terms of the financial aspect, Musk stated that all proceeds from the event would go to veterans.
There is also a business angle to the bout, as Musk confirmed that subscribers to his profile, known as Twitter Blue, would receive exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. Initially, Las Vegas was considered as a potential location for the fight, but reports in June suggested that the Colosseum could be an option.
TMZ reported that Zuckerberg was approached by the Italian Minister of Culture regarding the possibility of staging the showdown at the historic battleground. Musk himself tweeted about the chance of the fight happening at the Colosseum.
The Colosseum, one of the world's seven wonders, is Italy's most iconic landmark. However, it has not hosted large audiences for centuries and can only accommodate a few hundred spectators on temporary seating.
The proposed date for the clash between the two social media titans has been a subject of debate, with August 26 being mentioned as a possibility. However, Musk revealed on Sunday that he would be undergoing an MRI scan for a neck and upper back injury, which could potentially require surgery. He stated that the exact date of the fight was still uncertain and that he would have more information later in the week.
