Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has expressed his willingness to use any means necessary, including military force, to protect the United States from Mexican drug cartels.
When asked about the use of drones or other military tactics to target the cartels, DeSantis affirmed that the US has the right to defend itself and hold the cartels accountable.
In response to further questioning from NBC News about his stance on using drones against the cartels, DeSantis clarified, "I said I would use whatever force we need to defend the country."
DeSantis highlighted the significant impact of the cartels on American society, stating that they are responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans, human trafficking, and sexual abuse. He described the cartels as "the worst of humanity" and likened them to foreign terrorist organizations.
Previously, DeSantis had proposed designating the cartels as either foreign terrorist organizations or transnational criminal organizations. He also advocated for creating rules of engagement that would allow for the use of deadly force against cartel operatives attempting to breach the border wall.
In a related development, Republican Representative Chip Roy of Texas, along with more than a dozen other House lawmakers, is urging their colleagues to withhold approval of Department of Homeland Security funding until measures are taken to secure the nation's southern border.
In a letter signed by the lawmakers, they argue that funding should not be provided to an agency that is at odds with their states and the American people. They emphasize the moral obligation to protect the nation and the migrant children who are suffering abuse due to the crisis at the southern border, stating, "No border security, no funding."
Governor DeSantis and these lawmakers are taking a strong stance on border security, emphasizing the need to address the threat posed by Mexican drug cartels and protect the American people.
