Alabama Republicans Stand Firm: Unfazed By Capitol Riot Indictment, Trump Gains Momentum At Rally

Republican voters in Montgomery, Alabama, are showing unwavering support for former President Donald Trump in the wake of his indictment and not guilty plea related to the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, and alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Trump delivered his first speech after his arraignment in a Washington, D.C., federal court at the state Republican Party's summer meeting in Montgomery. Fox News Digital spoke to several attendees at the event to gauge their opinions on the charges and their preferred candidate for the party's presidential nomination.

The attendees expressed their resolute backing for Trump. Mike, one of the attendees, exclaimed, "Donald Trump is the best president that this country has ever had . . . and that goes back to Ronald Reagan. [Reagan] was a great president, and he ain't as good as Donald Trump."

Another attendee named Billie Rae simply stated, "Donald J. Trump," with her husband, Tim, agreeing wholeheartedly. The enthusiasm for the former president was palpable as Julie and C.J. shouted his name for all to hear, exclaiming, "President Trump! Go Trump! Go, go, go!"

When asked about their reasons for supporting Trump, C.J. emphasized the immigration problem and the state of the economy, stating, "Our immigration problem, our economy? Trump. We've got to. We've got to bring America back. It's terrible what Biden has done to our country. It's horrible. We've got to get it back."

Other attendees echoed these sentiments, but Alabama State Sen. Lance Bell remained undecided, stating that he would wait and see how things unfold before making his decision. When asked about the impact of the charges on Trump's support, Bell believed that the charges were actually helping him gain more support.

"I think the charges are helping him because people are seeing the political prosecution," Bell explained. "So I think the charges are helping him pick up support. It's sad when we're having that in our country when we're having political prosecutions."

Sheila, Beverly, Kim, and Lori all agreed that the additional charges brought against Trump were only bolstering his support. Lori noted, "His numbers go up every time they indict him," while Sheila criticized the charges as frivolous and accused Trump's opponents of using them as a distraction from the alleged wrongdoings of the "Biden Crime Family," as Trump referred to them.

Frank and Paulina also concurred with this sentiment, while Clay believed that the indictments were a deliberate attempt to dissuade soft Republicans and independent voters from supporting Trump.

"It's definitely an attack on that," Clay asserted. Paulina added, "Smart people know a smokescreen when they see one."
