Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie has strongly refuted former President Trump's claim that he is being indicted for the American people.
In an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of The Union," Christie called Trump a "liar and a coward" and emphasized that Trump is facing indictment solely due to his own conduct. Christie dismissed Trump's assertion that he considers the indictments as a badge of honor and courage, stating, "Theres no other of the 200 million Americans he spoke about who illegally retained classified national secrets."
Christie's remarks were in response to Trump's speech at a Turning Point Action event, where the former president proclaimed, "Every time the radical left Democrats, Marxist communities, and fascists indict me, I consider it to be a great badge of honor and courage, Im doing it for you. Im being indicted for you. Better me than you, right?"
As a contender in the GOP presidential primary race, Christie has been vocal in his criticism of Trump. He highlighted the fact that Trump is facing 37 federal criminal charges related to his handling of classified documents.
Christie pointed out that Trump had been asked politely and professionally for 18 months to voluntarily turn over the classified documents after leaving the White House. He also emphasized that no other American would have lied to their own lawyers and prosecutors about the whereabouts of these documents.
Regarding Trump's suggestion to hold the trial after the 2024 election, Christie expressed his disagreement, stating, "I dont think hes doing that for us either. He should resolve this thing before people vote, so that we know exactly who were voting for."
