Fugitive murder suspect Michael Charles Burham, who had been on the run for nine days, has been apprehended by Pennsylvania State Police, according to Fox News.
Burham, a 34-year-old Army veteran with survivalist and firearms training, was the subject of an intense manhunt involving over 200 officers from 15 federal, state, and local agencies. He was wanted on kidnapping charges and is also suspected of murder and rape charges in New York. These charges are related to an interstate crime spree that culminated in his arrest in South Carolina after a previous manhunt in May.
Authorities revealed that Burham managed to escape from custody on July 6 by making his way through the jail's gym to the rooftop. Using a rope made from bedsheets, the former Army reservist successfully climbed down and disappeared into the night. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a denim jacket, an orange-striped jumpsuit issued by the jail, and matching Crocs.
The capture of Burham brings an end to a nationwide manhunt that had gripped the attention of law enforcement agencies and the public alike. The details surrounding his arrest and the circumstances leading up to it will be disclosed during the upcoming press conference.
