Tucker Carlson's interview with South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (R) at the 2023 FAMiLY Leader Summit in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday, kicked off the faith-based conference with a bang.

The sold-out crowd was greeted by Scott's opening remark, "Isn't it good to be in a nation where you are free to praise the Lord?"

During the interview, Scott took an unconventional approach, spending a significant portion of the conversation standing, engaging with the audience, and addressing them directly rather than focusing solely on Carlson. This dynamic created an energetic and interactive atmosphere.

Scott's sense of humor was on full display as he joked about appointing Carlson as his future "Bye-Bye Ambassador," referencing Carlson's previous suggestion of rounding up individuals in the country illegally and "dropping them off in Tijuana." The audience responded with laughter and applause.

While Scott skillfully deflected some of Carlson's pointed questions regarding the war between Ukraine and Russia, he remained steadfast in his belief that U.S. soldiers should not be involved in foreign conflicts. "We should never allow American soldiers to be engulfed in the challenge between Ukraine and Russia. Our boots on the ground should not be there," Scott asserted.

When Carlson raised the topic of sending cluster bombs to Ukraine, Scott avoided a direct response, simply stating that such action would not be necessary if he were president. He aligned himself with Carlson's suggestion of deploying U.S. reservists at the border to form a "human wall" instead of sending them to Ukraine. "If you don't control your own back door, it's not your country," Scott emphasized, highlighting the detrimental impact of fentanyl brought into the country by Mexican cartels.

In response to Carlson's question about the influx of millions of illegal immigrants of military age constituting an invasion, Scott concurred, stating, "I don't disagree." He also expressed his determination to eradicate Mexican cartels, saying, "[I want to] make sure the Mexican cartels cease to exist."

Throughout the approximately 25-minute interview, Scott received applause for his stance on closing the southern border and building a wall. He delivered several applause lines, resonating with the conservative audience.

Scott also addressed the importance of objective truth, stating, "There are forces in this nation that hate objective truth. Two genders, one truth." This statement garnered support from the crowd, highlighting Scott's commitment to conservative principles.

The interview concluded with Scott reiterating the significance of his faith. He emphasized that those who do not align with commonsense conservative principles rooted in the Judeo-Christian foundation should choose another candidate. Scott's unwavering faith and commitment to conservative values were evident throughout the interview.

The interview with Scott was the first of many at the daylong annual event. The faith-based Summit began with a worship session led by multi-GMA Dove Award-winning Selah, followed by an introductory address from FAMiLY Leader CEO Bob Vander Plaats.

Scott took the opportunity to praise Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds for her dedication to protecting life. Earlier in the week, Iowa lawmakers passed legislation to outlaw most abortions as soon as the unborn baby has a heartbeat. Reynolds planned to sign the bill at the Summit later in the day. Scott expressed his support for Reynolds on Twitter, stating, "Great news! I celebrate states like Iowa and the leadership of Gov. @KimReynoldsIA that understand the importance of creating a culture that protects life."

The 2023 "Principle over Politics" FAMiLY Leader Summit in Des Moines also featured interviews with other presidential hopefuls, including Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former Ambassador Nikki Haley, and former Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

The Summit's live coverage was available on BlazeMedia, and viewers were encouraged to stay tuned for Glenn Beck's exclusive interview with Tucker Carlson on BlazeTV at the conclusion of the event.
