Chaya Raichik, the popular creator on TikTok known as Libs of TikTok, recently found herself in a heated exchange with Taylor Lorenz, a prominent figure at the Washington Post.
Lorenz had reached out to Raichik for a comment regarding Twitter's monetization program for creators. Raichik, however, had no intention of cooperating and publicly shared screenshots of their conversation.
Lorenz began by asking Raichik if she had received any payout from Twitter's program, noting that Raichik had not posted about it. Raichik's response was blunt and to the point: "It's none of your business."
Twitter's ad revenue sharing program has been making headlines lately, with some users earning substantial amounts of money. Lorenz, seemingly curious about Raichik's exclusion, asked if she had not been included in Elon Musk's group and if her relationship with Twitter had soured. Raichik, in a sarcastic tone, replied that she had actually been secretly dating Elon Musk. "Please don't tell anyone because we're keeping it quiet," she added, poking fun at Lorenz's reputation for trustworthiness.
Lorenz persisted, pressing Raichik on whether she was earning money from Twitter's program. Raichik, instead of providing a straightforward answer, deflected the question by stating that she was writing a story on people who suffered from "Elon Derangement Syndrome" and refused to pay for a blue check or removed a significant amount of their content from Twitter. She asked Lorenz if she had any regrets now that creators were receiving massive cash payouts. Lorenz's response was a simple "No."
Elon Musk, who had been tagged in the post featuring the screenshots of the exchange, chimed in with laughing emojis, seemingly finding the situation amusing.
The exchange between Raichik and Lorenz highlights the tension and animosity that can arise between media figures and social media creators. It also sheds light on the growing monetization opportunities available to creators on platforms like Twitter. While Raichik's sarcastic responses may have entertained some, they also serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by journalists when seeking information from individuals who may not be willing to cooperate.
