According to Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the United States is currently embroiled in a fierce battle to safeguard American democracy from what he refers to as "kleptocrats" like former President Donald Trump.
Speaking on MSNBC's "All In" on Tuesday, Raskin criticized House Republicans for their ongoing investigations into President Joe Biden, characterizing their efforts as a desperate attempt to find any wrongdoing in order to tarnish Biden's reputation. Raskin argues that this strategy is merely a distraction from the fact that Trump's primary objective during his time in office was to maximize his personal profits and transform the presidency into a lucrative enterprise for himself and his family.
Raskin asserts, "There's gotta be an effort to bring down Joe Biden by putting him in the same category [as Trump], which is ridiculous and not convincing to the American people." He emphasizes that the fight to defend American democracy and its institutions against autocrats, theocrats, and kleptocrats like Trump is far from over.
As the ranking Democrat at the Oversight Committee, Raskin believes he is in the right position to address these concerns. Looking ahead to the 2024 elections, he expresses confidence in the Democratic Party's ability to regain control of the House and states his intention to become the chair of the Oversight Committee. Raskin is determined to see this battle through and is prepared to campaign across the country in support of fellow Democrats.
