Former President Trump criticized President Biden's failed student loan forgiveness plan on Friday, labeling him as "crooked" while celebrating a favorable Supreme Court decision in Biden v. Arkansas.
Speaking at the Moms for Liberty Joyful Warriors National Summit in Philadelphia, Trump condemned Biden's plan, which aimed to forgive over $10,000 per federal loan borrower. The Supreme Court later ruled the plan unconstitutional.
During his speech, Trump argued that the plan would have been unfair to those who diligently paid off their debts through hard work.
He also accused Biden of attempting to buy votes through the proposal, stating, "We have a corrupt president. Very corrupt."
The Supreme Court's majority opinion dealt a significant blow to the Biden administration, discrediting the notion that the HEROES Act would authorize loan forgiveness.
Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the 6-3 majority, explained that the plan would have canceled approximately $430 billion of federal student loan balances, erasing the debts of 20 million borrowers and reducing the median amount owed by the remaining 23 million borrowers from $29,400 to $13,600.
In addition to discussing the student loan forgiveness decision, Trump referenced the recent 303 Creative LLC. v. Elenis case, which upheld the right of a Christian web designer to refuse services to same-sex couples. Trump hailed this as a victory for religious liberty.
